First 48 Hours After New Primary Care Consultation (Annual Physical)
By Healthway Solutions PLLC | October 2, 2026
Most important rule: follow the instructions you left with, especially for labs and vaccines. In the first 48 hours after your yearly physical, I also want you to hydrate, take it easy if you feel run-down, avoid alcohol and heavy workouts for 24 hours if you had bloodwork or immunizations, and keep an eye on any injection or puncture site.
If you’re in Town Center in The Woodlands and you’re trying to get back to real life fast after your routine annual physical, you’re not alone. My New Primary Care Consultation (Annual Physical) is a 45-minute visit where we review your medical history and current medications, do a full physical exam, and order routine labs when it makes sense. The visit itself is straightforward. The part that trips people up is the next day or two, when you’re waiting on results, your arm is a little sore, or you’re wondering if the gym is a bad idea.
0 to 24 hours after your routine annual physical: labs, vaccines, and the “don’t overdo it” window
If you had bloodwork, a vaccine, or both, the first day is about protecting those sites and keeping your body calm. A lot of people feel totally fine, then notice fatigue later that evening. That’s common.
Blood draw care (same day)
- Keep the bandage on for 1 to 4 hours.
- Skip heavy lifting with that arm for 24 hours.
- Mild bruising can happen. A small tender spot is usually normal.
- If bleeding starts again, apply firm pressure for several minutes.
Vaccine aftercare (same day)
- Soreness, fatigue, and a low-grade fever are common.
- Use a cold compress on the injection site if it feels hot or swollen.
- If I told you it’s okay for you to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen, take it as directed.
On activity, I generally recommend you avoid heavy exercise and alcohol for 24 hours if you had bloodwork or immunizations. Light walking is fine for most people. If you’re heading out into The Woodlands heat and humidity, drink extra water and don’t push through dizziness. That humid subtropical climate can turn “I’m fine” into “I need to sit down” quickly.
Quick rule of thumb: If your body feels run-down after your pcp annual physical, listen to it. Rest and hydration usually fix it faster than trying to power through.
24 to 48 hours: what’s normal, what’s not, and how results usually roll in
Day two is usually when questions pop up. A bruise looks bigger. Your arm is still sore. You remember you forgot to ask something. This is also when you start watching for results and next steps.
Mild bruising after bloodwork can last a few days. A little tenderness is common too. If you felt lightheaded right after the draw, that can happen, especially if you were fasting or anxious. The fix is boring but real: fluids, food, and taking a few minutes to sit before you jump back into your day.
If we made an immediate medication change during your yearly physical, follow that plan exactly. If you’re unsure, ask. I’d rather answer a quick question than have you guess for two days.
Lab and imaging turnaround depends on what we ordered and where it’s processed, but it’s normal for some results to arrive sooner than others. If something comes back that needs urgent attention, we’ll reach out. If you’re planning a follow-up or need to pick up lab paperwork, many Town Center schedules run smoother if you plan around Market Street and the Waterway hours and avoid peak commute windows.
Your first week after a pcp annual physical: keep it simple, keep it consistent
The first week is the perfect time to actually use what we covered in your annual physical, instead of letting it turn into “I’ll deal with it later.” If you got screening recommendations, referrals, or prior authorization help, start the scheduling while it’s fresh. It saves you time and it keeps your care moving.
If you had a vaccine, soreness can hang around for a couple of days. Gentle movement of the arm often helps. If you had bloodwork, avoid repeatedly checking or rubbing the site. Let the bruise do its thing.
If your goal is prevention
Write down one or two changes you’re willing to keep for the next month, like sleep consistency, blood pressure checks, or a realistic movement plan. Small, steady changes beat big plans you hate by day three.
If your goal is “don’t miss anything”
Keep a short note in your phone of any symptoms that show up during the week. Timing matters. It helps me connect the dots faster if we need a follow-up visit.
And yes, the weather matters here. The Woodlands heat and humidity can quietly drain you. Hydration and sun protection are part of “aftercare” if you’re spending time outdoors this week.
Habits that protect your yearly physical results (and make follow-ups easier)
A yearly physical is only as useful as what you do with it. Here are the habits that tend to keep things clear and prevent the back-and-forth later.
- Keep your medication list current. If something changed, update your phone list that same day.
- Save your questions as they pop up. Most people remember the important stuff 12 hours after the visit.
- Plan one admin task. Schedule the referral, complete the lab visit, or upload a form. One step is progress.
- Eat and hydrate normally. Unless we gave you a specific instruction, steady meals and fluids help you feel better after fasting labs.
When to call us after your annual physical (normal vs urgent)
I’m big on clear communication, and I don’t want you sitting at home trying to decide if something is “serious enough.” People come to us because they feel heard and supported, and we keep that same energy after your visit too.
"She even did a follow-up call on surgery day, and after the surgery to see how my they were doing."

Call same-day if you have:
- Fever over 100.4°F after a vaccine, or fever that keeps climbing
- Uncontrolled bleeding at a blood draw site
- Fainting, chest pain, or severe dizziness

- Spreading redness, warmth, or worsening pain around an injection or puncture site
I serve patients across The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Spring, Conroe, Tomball, and Magnolia. If something feels off after your routine annual physical, reach out. We can often handle questions quickly, and if you need an in-person check, we’ll talk through the best next step.

A quick reminder about what’s billed separately after your pcp annual physical
Your New Primary Care Consultation (Annual Physical) is $125 for a 45-minute visit. Labs, vaccines, imaging, medications, and any extra evaluation or treatment for new or ongoing concerns are billed separately. If insurance applies, copays, coinsurance, or deductible amounts are due at the time of the visit, and any remaining balance is your responsibility after insurance processes the claim.
